Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non-governmental organization initiated in May 2000 by several women’s organisations in Uganda to develop the use of information and communication technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address issues collectively. WOUGNET’s vision is a society in which women are empowered through the use of ICTs for sustainable development. Our mission is to promote and support the use of ICTs by women and women organisations in Uganda, so that they can take advantage of the opportunities presented by ICTs in order to effectively address national and local problems of Sustainable National Development.

Profile of the candidate

Eligibility criteria:
  • All applicants must hold or currently pursue a Swedish university degree within ICT and be resident of Sweden (hold a Swedish personal identification number) regardless of their country of origin.
  • All candidates must have lived outside of Uganda for at least 8 years in the last 10 years. The starting date of the last ten years should be considered fromthe date that the Intern applies to the internship selection process.
  • All candidates must be maximum 30 on the date of the interview

Skills, Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Creative, out-of-the-box thinker able to contribute to policies and strategies for WOUGNET that respond to the ever-changing possibilities with ICTs;
  • Proficiency in computer and networking systems as well as familiarity with database management and information management;
  • Willingness to work effectively in diverse urban and rural environments, and with people with a wide ranging skills and aptitude for ICTs;
  • Good interpersonal skills, with an ability to consistently support and encourage staff and members to embrace the use of ICT;
  • Good organisational and planning skills including the ability to prioritise and manage own time even under pressure;
  • Good presentation skills;
  • Good writing, communication and reporting skills as well;
  • Willingness and ability to travel and work outside official working hours

Desirable experience and skills:

  • Knowledge of a variety of software packages
  • Experience of / exposure to ICTs for rural development
Minimum Qualifications:
University degree with a qualification in ICT, Communications, Computer Science or related field. Additional study or training in areas of social and economic development and/or gender analysis is a bonus. Experience and knowledge with FOSS; Mobile application development; network management.
